Santa Speedo Run was brought to Chicago from Boston by a gaggle of speedo sporting enthusiasts who thought "why not run down Michigan Ave. in speedos in the middle of December?!" While the event itself is a bunch of ho ho ho's, we also started the event to raise awareness for Diabetes.

Over 17 million Americans have diabetes - a chronic, debilitating disease affecting every organ system. Only 5-10% of people with diabetes have type 1, also known as juvenile diabetes.

Type 1 Diabetes means that their pancreas does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert food into energy - needed for daily living. without insulin, their blood sugar can reach limits that can cause complications or even death.

Insulin provides life support, but insulin IS NOT the cure. Every 3 minutes someone dies from Diabetes - the leading cause of kidney failure, blindness, heart failure, amputations, nerve damage, heart attacks and strokes. There is not yet a cure for Diabetes.

Santa Speedo Run feels very passionately about helping to support those who  live with Diabetes. That is why 100% of the proceeds from our events go to the Chicago Diabetes Project.
